Technologically Empowered College Students (TECS)

TECS consists of eight sessions designed to improve the "Informational Literacy" skills of the novice and average computer user pursuing higher education. Information Literacy incorporates technological know-how, critical analysis of content, and organization and synthesis of information. These skills are critical for success in today's educational arena.

TECS is designed to simulate a college-level online course emphasizing individual as well as collaborative learning. Participants will be expected to complete each session's reading assignments, participate in an Activity (such as a quiz, chat, or discussion forum), and complete weekly individual Challenge Assignments. There will be a pre-course assessment and a post-course assessment. Data regarding an individual's participation will be available to the participant upon request throughout the course andwill be provided to the participant's Sponsoring Agent/Agency upon completion of the course.

Developmental Writing Seminar (DWS)

Due to gradual changes in college admissions practices, increasing numbers of students are being accepted into two and four year college degree programs. Unfortunately, upon acceptance to the college of their choice, many students take their school’s placement exam and find that they lack the requisite skills for first year English class. These students are then enrolled in non-credit bearing remedial classes for one or more semesters until their skills have sufficiently improved. This process has been described as frustrating, time-consuming, and costly by students, parents, and counselors alike.

The Developmental Writing Seminar is designed specifically to assess and remediate the writing skills of CBVH clients who are applying to college, before they take their placement exam. The Developmental Writing Seminar consists of two phases, an Initial Writing Assessment, and an eight week online seminar. Data regarding an individual's participation will be available to the participant upon request throughout the course and will be provided to the participant's Sponsoring Agent/Agency upon completion of the course.
